It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

I am in the process of learning a new style of Santa wood carving. I’m still working out the kinks but here is where I’m at for now.

Wood Spirit

One of the most fun carvings i've done is a wood spirit. I have used bass wood and cottonwood bark. I have a lot of fun with cottonwood. Here are a couple of photos of a " work in progress " cottonwood wood spirit.

I will also add a link to a youtube video on how to carve a wood spirit. This is not my video but I came across it and think it is helpful.

Relief Wood carve my dog

One thing I enjoyed doing was a relief carving of my dog Bella. I used butternut wood. The background of the carving has mountains, a stream, tree line and a house  along with rocks below near stream. It was a lot of fun. I used poly and then I shaded with burnt umber oil paint.

Welcome to my wood carving blog

I plan to share my carvings here,  along with some tips and tricks I have learned and continue to learn. I’ve been carving about ten months now and I’m loving it. It has become my new passion. I’m unable to surf the waves which is my first passion so I hope to channel those vibes into my carving. I hope y’all enjoy this blog and I hope you get something out of it.
